Budget?

Audio is a lot like speed- the thicker your wallet, the better you get.

Look for 4k support. It’s pretty easy to make 5.1 to 7.2. Also my last few receivers have lasted about 8 years each, and all three are still working.

If WiFi isn’t a MUST then: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_022RXV381/Ya…

If it is, then you have to step-up to the next model, and about 100 dollars more: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_022RXV481/Ya…

I’m a 2 channel guy, so I built my amp, my pre, and my pre for vinyl all with tubes. Once you go thermionic the sand amps just don't cut it.

This Denon looks like it hacks all those boxes, plus it’s a slightly older model so it’s a bit cheaper.

I had a Yamaha receiver for 25 years before it quit. When I needed a new one I got a Yamaha. I have had it for 4 years and like it a lot. It is hooked to my TV and pushes 5 speakers and a sub much louder than I could ever imagine turning it up.

Added to my radar but I do have a bit of a problem with yamaha’s user interface. Seems like they try to make things difficult to give the appearance of high end. I’m the farthest from an audiophile so sure some of those menus that bugged me mean something to someone but honestly if I changed a setting on my last one it basically flipped me the bird and did what it wanted to the point that I actually gave it away and went with my older Sony that now died. Thanks for the links I’m purchasing in the next 24 hours so just gotta find the right deal/power/user friendlyness/options.

This is up there on my list. Ty for sharing. Want all the features but need it to not be too complicated and I feel like denon is halfway decent in that respect. True story came back from a night out with the wife more that once where the babysitter was sitting in silence because they couldn’t figure out how to operate the avr even after I explained/turned on/left notes. Some of these systems you hit one wrong button and your screwed (yamaha).

My current receiver still works but “overloads” to easily. Used to rock all day but now goes onto protect mode at even medium volume. I love to tinker and am sure I could solve ithe problem but I hate the ui and lack of features that I would enjoy so just going to replace it instead.

300 +/- if there’s something out there that warrants some extra cash so be it but seems like 300ish is a good ballpark for my needs.

I’m not anti yamaha but I’d really have to take a newer one for a test drive because my old yamaha had a terrible user interface and constantly pissed me off. Had all kinds of issues but maybe I should let it go and give it another shot.

Sounds like you might be running 6 ohm speakers on 8 ohm amp. There are many variations obviously. Check that out. Also open it up and blow or vacuum it out. See if that makes a difference.

Check out Accessories4less if you’re looking to save a couple dollars on a new reciever. They’re factory refurbs but have a pretty good track record. I’ve got a Denon from them a few years back that’s had no issues at all. If I were to be picking up a new reciever I’d definitely be getting either a Denon or Yamaha. If you think you may end up with 4k in the next couple years make sure you pick something with the latest HDCP specs as well.

It’s funny, the reason I got another was because it was so simple. But I totally get it. If it doesn’t make sense to you then it will drive you crazy. I am not an audiophile or anything so I basically just picked a price point and bought something that had most if the features I wanted. Mine doesn’t even have bluetooth. I figured it was one less thing to go wrong.

Good luck! Part of the problem is too many choices.

I’m not up to date on the latest offerings, but I bought my Onkyo TX-NR616 at www.accessories4less.com about 4 years ago. They sell factory refurbished equipment. I like going the refurbished or used route because you typically get higher end equipment for your budget.

I love my Onkyo. Although I’ve read many horror stories about failing HDMI boards so I would do some research before I bought another to make sure the problem has been corrected. I know that Denon, Yamaha, and Marantz are held in high regard.

find one you like, Yamaha, Pioneer, Marantz, Denon, Onkyo etc. Just go touch a few and see which you like most as far as controls and settings menu’s since none of them sound any different. Pioneer usually gives you the most bells and whistles for the money. Don’t get caught up in watts either, those are just numbers. If you need substantial power you have very nice speakers and you aren’t asking the internet about receivers.

A4L has stuff. Newegg usually has buys on Pioneer.
